Health New Zealand – Te Whatu Ora are seeking applications from Vascular Surgeons who are registered Medical Practitioners with a Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) or equivalent to enable specialist (vocational) registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand for Dunedin Hospital.

This is an opportunity to work in a supportive, family-friendly environment with a wide variety of cases, access to professional development, and a close relationship with the University of Otago.

About the role

Working in Dunedin Hospital, a 350-bed teaching and training institution, and our wider Surgical Directorate, you will bring your specialist skills in vascular surgery to our team and community alike. This role involves elective and emergency vascular surgery practice. Our clinics take place across the catchment area and may involve scenic flights to outreach facilities. You would be joining our team of currently three Vascular Surgeons and one MOSS, providing 24-hour care as part of a 1:4 vascular surgery roster.

We have strong links with the Dunedin School of Medicine with ample opportunities for teaching both undergraduate and postgraduate students. There is a strong academic focus in our vascular department within the University of Otago with current research projects in innovative wound care, vascular ultrasound, vascular disease, and surgical education. For the right candidate with strong academic interest, there would be an opportunity to complement this role with a teaching role at the University of Otago, Department of Surgical Sciences.

In this role, you will be working closely together with our interventional radiologists and offering a broad spectrum of open and endovascular procedures to our patients. The hospital is a RACS integrated training site and all sub-specialties are represented at Health New Zealand Southern.

To be considered for this role, you will need to possess FRACS in Vascular Surgery or an equivalent qualification. This position would be suitable for an experienced surgeon as well as someone in the early stages of their consultant career, as we pride ourselves in our collaborative and supportive working environment. Vascular trainees within their final year of training are welcome to express an interest.
