About the role

This is a two year position for a qualified Consultant/Senior Medical Officer to undertake vocational training towards an ANZCA qualified Pain Medicine Specialist.

This role will provide you with the opportunity to complete the required clinical hours for this training within a highly experienced multi-disciplinary team of a regional tertiary service.

About the Team/Service/Location

You will be working alongside an enthusiastic and cohesive team of:

  • Medical Specialists
  • Clinical Psychologists
  • Occupational Therapist
  • Physiotherapists
  • Nurses.

The interdisciplinary team meets regularly and provides individual and group programmes in-person as well as online. The service’s current research focus is on developing support for opioid tapering and online resources to address access, equity and challenges to offer best practice pain management to the geographically large region.

The service has monthly in-service meetings, monthly meetings with addictions, and a monthly complex patient meeting at which other hospital teams are able to come and discuss patients of interest. They also have a weekly intervention session in the fluoroscopy department with procedures under XR and ultrasound.

Capital, Coast and Hutt Valley district is located centrally in Wellington and has over 6,000 full-time equivalent staff, making us one of the major employers in the Wellington region. We operate three hospitals – Wellington Regional Hospital in Newtown, Hutt Valley Hospital and Kenepuru Hospital in Porirua – as well as the Kāpiti Health Centre at Paraparaumu.

About you:

  • Vocationally registered with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ)
  • FANZCA or equivalent qualification and be able to register for with the MCNZ
  • Enthusiasm in learning about pain management, teaching and presenting within the department and to other hospital services
  • Work in collaboration with multidisciplinary team
  • Able to provide consistently high standards of medical care
  • Relevant experience and training
