About the role
The primary purpose of this position is to be a member of the Senior Medical team in providing specialist paediatric medical assessment and ongoing management where required for children and young people across our acute, inpatient and ambulatory settings.
Some of the key responsibilities of the Tutor Specialist include:
- supervision
- teaching
- roster coordination and guidance
- the support of our team of 28 Resident Medical Officers in training.
This unique role will give the candidate the skills and experience needed for a consultant paediatrician role. Excellent support and mentoring are provided during your time with us.
This full-time, fixed-term (12 months) role also includes a requirement to participate in the general paediatrics consultant after-hours roster (including 1:6 weekend ward rounds and some overnight on call) with full back up.

This position is suitable for senior trainees with the expectation of achieving Fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians within six to nine months or a new RACP Fellow.
You must:
- be eligible for registration with the New Zealand Medical Council
- be a team player that can traverse across services and respectful of other disciplines
- demonstrate effective communication styles, critical thinking and strive to improve health inequities
- have a proven ability or competence in working with Māori, Pacific and culturally diverse population (preferred).
