We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Consultant General Paediatrician with a special interest in Behavioural or Developmental Paediatrics to join our team at Rotorua Hospital on a permanent, part-time basis (0.75 FTE).
About the role
This position offers an exciting opportunity to work within a vibrant and supportive environment, providing exceptional paediatric care to the diverse community in Lakes region across Rotorua and Taupo hospital sites. The role involves assessing and managing a broad spectrum of paediatric conditions, with an emphasis on behavioural and developmental issues. You will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, contributing to both clinical practice and service development.
Acute inpatient paediatric, level 2 neonatal care and after hours on-call 1:8 basis is negotiable.
The current paediatric team consists of:
- eleven specialist general paediatricians with a full range of subspeciality interests
- a senior registrar/fellow
- three junior registrars
- dedicated paediatric SHO support.
Our team has well established referral links with tertiary centres for support.
The department is accredited by RACP for a basic general paediatric and a rural component of advanced paediatric training
Rotorua Hospital is a teaching site for fifth and sixth year medical students from the University of Auckland Medical School.

About you:
- Full registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand (or suitable qualification recognised in NZ)
- Specialist qualification in Paediatric Medicine (e.g., FRACP or equivalent)
- Demonstrated experience and interest in behavioural or developmental paediatrics
- Maintains a high standard of clinical practice with a commitment to ongoing professional development
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and cultural competency
