About the roles

Radiation Oncologists (Consultant level)

As a Consultant Radiation Oncologist, you will be part of a collaborative, research-active regional service focused on delivering specialist care closer to home for Northland communities. You will manage patients across key tumour streams (Breast, GU, Lung, GI, Palliative), contribute to multidisciplinary care, quality improvement, teaching, and research, and help shape a new model of regional cancer care.

We are seeking 2.0 FTE Radiation Oncologists to support the new Whangārei unit. Our strong preference is for clinicians who wish to live and work in Northland and become part of the Whangārei-based team. However, we also welcome interest from candidates seeking a visiting clinic model, offering flexibility to remain Auckland-based while contributing regularly to clinics, MDMs, peer review, and CME within the regional service.

This is a rare chance to work in a purpose-built $60.9 million facility, while also benefiting from the resources, collegial networks, and expertise of the wider Northern Region Cancer and Blood Service.

We are also recruiting a Medical Officer to join the Whangārei-based Radiation Oncology team. This role is ideal for a doctor wanting to develop specialist skills in a highly supportive and well-structured environment.

This position offers:

  • clinic-based hours with excellent work-life balance
  • a stable Monday-Friday schedule
  • no acute on-call
  • close support from Consultants, Medical Physicists, Radiation Therapists, and MDT colleagues
  • a chance to build skills and confidence while enjoying the lifestyle and community offered in Northland
  • team model with the Auckland Radiation Oncology MOSS and the Whangārei Medical Oncology MOSS.

This is an excellent opportunity to gain specialist exposure while contributing meaningfully to a service that is evolving and expanding.
