About the role
We have a fantastic opportunity for a Consultant Gastroenterologist to be based at Southland Hospital, Invercargill. As an introduction, Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora – Southern offers a comprehensive range of gastroenterology services in both of our main hospitals located in Invercargill and Dunedin, as well as outpatient clinics in other areas of the district.
In this role, you will participate in a 1:4 on-call roster and provide a full range of gastroenterology services alongside an enthusiastic group of colleagues. Planning is currently underway to redevelop facilities and expand the department, so there will be opportunities to contribute to this development. There are also opportunities for laboratory and clinical-based research, and scope for collaboration with like-minded researchers.
About you
You will:
- have enthusiasm for teaching
- be a team player with a commitment to improving and developing the quality of service delivery
- possess FRACP or an equivalent qualification. Trainees within a few months of completing FRACP training are welcome to express an interest
- have ERCP experience (desirable but not essential).
We would consider candidates who are close to completing their specialist training and are eligible for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand.

Salary range
This role belongs to the ASMS Collective Agreement and falls between Step 1 ($185,380) and Step 15 ($267,980 per annum pro-rata).
