Our people are at the heart of everything we do
About the role
Our Radiology Service in Dunedin can offer you a permanent, full-time role as an Interventional Radiologist. We provide services to a population of approximately 310,000 people over the lower South Island, and our work is predominantly emergency and inpatient cases. We offer a full range of imaging modalities based on digital RIS/PACS systems. We offer MRI, interventional, CT, and ultrasound, although we do not offer mammography services.
We are seeking an Interventional Radiologist who can provide a wide range of techniques, including:
- peripheral vascular
- biliary drainage and embolisation
- nephrostomy tube insertion
- trauma embolisation
- tunnelled IV access
- fistula intervention.
EVAR/TEVAR procedures are also performed, and there would be the opportunity to be involved with these if desired. Ideally, you would be able to contribute to our general radiology component and general out-of-hours roster.
You would be expected to support and participate in radiology service and quality initiatives as part of your role. As we are a flexible department, we are willing and able to make the most of your skills and are happy to support your special interest. As a team who prides itself on the work we do and the care provided to our patients, quality is at the centre of our service. There is therefore an expectation that you will participate in quality initiatives as part of your role. You will participate in an out-of-hours on-call roster shared equally amongst your radiologist colleagues.
About you
You will:
- ideally have a subspecialty in interventional radiology
- be able to take part in the vascular interventional daytime and on-call roster, with an option to undertake general call too
- be an outstanding team player
- have the energy and drive to make a positive difference with both patients and colleagues alike
- be enthusiastic about teaching and passing on your knowledge to junior members of staff.
In addition to enjoying a challenging and varied workload, you can look forward to a competitive pay rate and a culture where staff are included, valued, and respected for their expertise.
You must be FRANZCR qualified (or equivalent) and hold, or be eligible for, vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand. Candidates from outside of New Zealand are encouraged to apply, and our experienced Recruitment Advisors are happy to answer your questions about coming to live and work with Southern.
About our service
Working here might be different from where you’ve just come from, but we bet you’ll love it! This is a fulfilling role amongst a rewarding team, and is based in a great location. We currently have a team of 10, consisting of general radiologists and four other interventional radiologists.
Our team also:
- is rather informal and relaxed, with everyone on a first-name basis
- regularly enjoys a good laugh when appropriate
- works as a strong MDT within our radiology service, and always has the welfare of our patients and their families at the core of our work.
Due to our size and close collegial relationships throughout the hospital, it is quite normal to go and find the person you need to get an answer instead of sending an email. You will also often find you get feedback regarding the progress of your patients after they’ve left your care, which certainly does not happen in a larger hospital.
About Dunedin
Dunedin is a city known for its southern hospitality and having some of New Zealand’s most famous scenery and holiday spots on its doorstep (Queenstown, Wānaka, Milford Sound, Stewart Island, and more). You can enjoy a diverse range of leisure activities such as skiing, trout fishing, surfing, hiking, or mountain biking. Dunedin has an abundance of amenities, educational facilities (primary through to tertiary), a great arts scene, and a strong cultural life.
