About the role

Our Radiology Service in Dunedin can offer you a permanent, full-time role as an Interventional Radiologist. We provide services to a population of approximately 310,000 people across the lower South Island, and our work is predominantly emergency and inpatient cases. We offer a full range of imaging modalities based on digital RIS/PACS systems, including MRI, interventional radiology, CT, and ultrasound. Mammography services are not provided.

We are seeking an Interventional Radiologist who can provide a wide range of techniques, including:

  • peripheral vascular procedures
  • biliary drainage and embolisation
  • nephrostomy tube insertion
  • trauma embolisation
  • tunnelled IV access
  • fistula intervention.

EVAR/TEVAR procedures are also performed, and there is the opportunity to be involved if desired. Ideally, you will also contribute to the general radiology component and the general out-of-hours roster.

You will be expected to support and participate in radiology service and quality initiatives as part of your role. Quality is central to our service, and participation in quality improvement activities is expected. You will also participate in an out-of-hours on-call roster shared equally among radiologist colleagues.

About you

You will:

  • ideally have a subspecialty in interventional radiology
  • be able to take part in the vascular interventional daytime and on-call roster, with an option to undertake general call as well
  • be an outstanding team player
  • have the energy and drive to make a positive difference for patients and colleagues
  • be enthusiastic about teaching and supporting junior staff development.

You can look forward to a competitive salary and a culture where staff are included, valued, and respected for their expertise.

You must be FRANZCR qualified (or equivalent) and hold, or be eligible for, vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand. Candidates from outside New Zealand are encouraged to apply, and our recruitment team can provide support and guidance about relocating and working in Southern.

About our service

Working here may be different from where you’ve come from, but we think you’ll enjoy it. This is a fulfilling role within a supportive and rewarding team, based in a great location. We currently have a team of 10, including general radiologists and four interventional radiologists.

Our team:

  • is informal and relaxed, with everyone on a first-name basis
  • enjoys a good laugh when appropriate
  • works as a strong MDT with patient and whānau care at the centre of everything we do.

Due to our size and close collegial relationships, it is common to speak directly with colleagues rather than relying on email. You will also often receive direct feedback on patient progress, which is a valued part of practice here.
