Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora invites applications for a General Medicine Physician for Dunedin Hospital. This is a permanent role with on-call duties providing care for a population of approximately 350,000 spread across the lower South Island of New Zealand.
About the role
Currently we are a team of twelve full time equivalents, and there is equal participation in the after hour roster for weeknights and weekends, and at times you may be a second on-call on the roster. - patient management
- leading ward rounds
- undertaking clinical procedures
- involvement audit

- participating in continuing professional development.
Our staff enjoy close relationships with the University of Otago School of Medicine, and Otago Polytechnic School of Nursing. We benefit from continuous professional development, involvement with medical and nursing student training, participation in research, and many more opportunities arising from working in a combined clinical-academic environment.
About you
As the successful candidate, you will:
- have a broad Internal Medicine background, allowing you to work with a broad spectrum of patients and illnesses
- have a focus on patient care that is at the centre of your daily work
- have a Fellowship with the RACP or an overseas equivalent (essential)
- be eligible for vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand (essential).

Salary range
This role belongs to the ASMS Collective Agreement, although union membership is optional. The current base rate falls between Step 1 ($185,380) and Step 15 ($267,980) per annum (note this is currently under negotiation with the Union). Your take-home salary also attracts on-call and availability allowances. You are also entitled to continued medical education monies, and an annual leave entitlement of six weeks per annum.
