About the role
This is a two-year fixed-term position for a qualified Senior Medical Officer to undertake vocational training towards becoming an ANZCA-qualified Pain Medicine Specialist.
This role will provide you with the opportunity to complete the required clinical hours for this training within a highly experienced multidisciplinary team in a regional tertiary service.
About the Team/Service/Location
You will be working alongside an enthusiastic and cohesive team of medical specialists, clinical psychologists, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, and nurses. The interdisciplinary team meets regularly and provides individual and group programmes in person as well as online. You will provide medical assessments as the sole practitioner and be part of an interdisciplinary assessment panel.
You will have opportunities to provide ultrasound and fluoroscopy-guided interventions. As this is a training position, supervision by Pain Medicine Specialists is provided for all aspects of the role. The service’s current research focus is on developing support for opioid tapering and online resources to address access, equity, and challenges in offering best-practice pain management across a geographically large region.
Capital, Coast and Hutt Valley districts are located centrally in Wellington and have over 6,000 full-time equivalent staff, making them among the major employers in the Wellington region. We operate three hospitals – Wellington Regional Hospital in Newtown, Hutt Valley Hospital, and Kenepuru Hospital in Porirua – as well as the Kāpiti Health Centre at Paraparaumu.
About you
You will:
- be vocationally registered with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ)
- be eligible to register for vocational registration with ANZCA
- hold FANZCA or an equivalent qualification and be eligible for vocational registration with the MCNZ
- work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team
- be able to provide consistently high standards of medical care
- be enthusiastic about supporting patients with chronic conditions
- have relevant experience and training.
