The Regional Cancer Treatment Service at MidCentral District Health Board provides medical oncology, radiation oncology and clinical haematology services funded by the MidCentral, Hawkes Bay, Wairarapa, Whanganui, Tairawhiti and Taranaki District Health Boards, for their communities.

The Role
We are seeking to appoint an additional Medical Oncologist for the Regional Cancer Treatment Service based at Palmerston North Hospital for a permanent fulltime position.
Applicants must have demonstrated clinical skills and the ability to work effectively within the multi-disciplinary team.

The Service
The service is predominantly a clinical service having facilities for inpatient and outpatient chemotherapy management and performing a number of high dose chemotherapy with PBSCR procedures each year. However the department does maintain an active clinical research portfolio, and possibilities exist for linkages with Massey University for pre-clinical research.
The service is also an approved FRACP training centre and undertakes active post graduate teaching at House Officer, Senior House Officer and Registrar level.

The Hospital
MidCentral District Health Board employs more than 2500 staff at Manawatu, Palmerston North, Tararua and Horowhenua and Otaki districts. Palmerston North Hospital is a 350 bed secondary hospital, which services an urban population of 80,000 and a total population catchment of 186,000. In addition, the hospital is a teaching hospital, and is associated with both Auckland and Otago medical schools.

The Area
Situated in the lower half of the North Island of New Zealand, the Manawatu region offers visitors and residents a unique mix of lifestyle by combining rural charm with the convenience of sophisticated living. Palmerston North in the centre of the Manawatu is a beautiful location, with all modern services and luxuries expected of vibrant cities, including a shopping plaza, a Globe theatrical centre, the Regent and Centre Point theatres, and dozens of hotels/motels, giving Palmerston North a reputation as a conference hub.

Palmerston North tertiary education is provided by Massey University and the International Pacific College. We have excellent primary, intermediate and secondary schooling, both public and private, mixed and single sex. Cost of living is reasonable, housing very affordable, and rural living with stunning views only minutes from town is very achievable.
Palmerston North is at the hub of key routes to the central North Island ski fields, and river adventures. Wellington the capital city, is only a two hour journey by road, as are the wine growing regions of Hawke’s Bay and Wairarapa.

To comply with the recent health order, MidCentral DHB requires ALL its employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. We are not accepting applications that do not meet this criteria.

MidCentral District Health Board actively seeks Māori into our workforce to reflect the community we serve.
