About the role

We are seeking experienced Anaesthetists to join our dynamic Cardiothoracic and ORL Anaesthesia team. We have full time Cardiothoracic Anaesthesia Consultant roles to commence late 2026/early 2027 (start date flexible).

The Greenlane Department of Cardiothoracic and ORL Anaesthesia, based at Te Toka Tumai Auckland City Hospital, serves New Zealand’s largest and one of Australasia’s busiest cardiothoracic surgical units. We provide anaesthesia for 1200 cardiac and 700 thoracic cases annually across five dedicated operating rooms and a specialised cardiothoracic intensive care unit.

Our patients undergo:

  • cardiac and thoracic surgical procedures including minimally invasive cardiac surgery, adult congenital and complex maternal heart disease, mechanical circulatory support, and heart and lung transplantation
  • interventional cardiology and electrophysiology procedures including TAVI, TEER, and lead extraction
  • otorhinolaryngological procedures from day-stay cases to quaternary head and neck surgery
  • perioperative echocardiography including transthoracic, transoesophageal, and 3D modalities.

Centrally located in Auckland, the Greenlane Department of Cardiothoracic and ORL Anaesthesia is an active ANZCA training site with a well-regarded Fellowship program. The department runs established quality improvement and research programs, and operates within a genuinely multidisciplinary environment, working closely with cardiothoracic surgery, cardiology, and respiratory medicine, as well as the broader anaesthesia departments at Auckland City Hospital, with shared professional development, education, and quality sessions.
