About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Hepatologist to join the New Zealand Liver Transplant Service (NZLTU) at Auckland City Hospital. This is a 1.0 FTE role, working as part of a multidisciplinary team delivering care to patients across Aotearoa.

As part of this role, you will:

  • provide inpatient and outpatient management of patients with acute and chronic liver disease, including liver transplantation
  • contribute to the national Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC) Service, supporting nearly 300 new cases annually
  • take part in a 1-in-4 on-call roster, providing tertiary hepatology advice nationwide
  • engage in teaching through the University of Aucklands Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences
  • contribute to investigator-initiated and industry-sponsored clinical research through our dedicated Liver Research Unit.

About the Team/Service/Location

NZLTU is New Zealands only national liver transplant service, assessing 80-120 adults and performing 40-50 liver transplants each year. We also provide long-term follow-up for nearly 800 recipients through local and regional clinics.

You will join a collaborative team of hepatologists, transplant-hepatobiliary surgeons, nurse practitioners, nurse specialists, and allied health professionals committed to delivering high-quality, patient-centred care. The service also includes a Liver Research Unit with a fully equipped lab and day-stay facility, supported by research nurses, fellows, and coordinators.

  • a track record in research and a commitment to teaching and service innovation.
