About our team

The Mental Health, Addiction and Intellectual Disability Service (MHAIDS) spans two districts – Capital, Coast and Hutt Valley (Greater Wellington) district and Wairarapa district. MHAIDS includes local, regional, and national services. The local MHAID services are provided from multiple sites within these districts.

The Central Regional Forensic Service provides services to the Wellington, Wairarapa, Manawatu, Whanganui, Hawke’s Bay and Tairawhiti (Gisborne) district. The Central Regional Forensic Service provides a range of services for adults and youth, including adult inpatient, prison and community services, a national Youth Forensic Service and the newly developed national Fixated Threat Assessment Centre.

Our teams provide mental health care to the local and regional men’s and women’s prisons and youth offending units and justice facilities. Our teams also deliver court liaison services to adult and youth courts. Our community teams provide care for people who require supervision and support by virtue of their status as special patients or who have ongoing need for forensic community support.

About you

You will be vocationally registered in Psychiatry with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) or hold equivalent qualification and be able qualify for registration with MCNZ. Speciality training in Forensic Psychiatry is preferred.
