About the role

We are seeking a committed Paediatric Surgical Specialist to join our dynamic and collaborative Child Health Service team at Christchurch Hospital. This is a unique opportunity to deliver high-quality surgical care to children and young people across the South Island, while actively contributing to service development, clinical governance, and education. We welcome applications from general paediatric surgeons, particularly those with a special interest in paediatric urology.

In this role, you will:

  • deliver specialist surgical care in both inpatient and outpatient settings, including outreach clinics and elective operating across Te Waipounamu (the South Island of New Zealand)
  • collaborate with a multidisciplinary team including paediatricians, neonatologists, anaesthetists, oncologists, and allied health professionals
  • participate in the regional paediatric surgical on-call roster
  • contribute to clinical teaching, research, and continuous quality improvement
  • engage in service development and support national guidelines for rare and complex conditions.

Skills and experience include:

  • Fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons endorsed in Paediatric Surgery by the time the appointment is taken up
  • registration as a specialist medical practitioner with the Medical Council of New Zealand
  • a broad scope of practice across paediatric surgery
  • a special interest, training and expertise in paediatric Urology desirable
  • a passion for improving outcomes for tamariki (children) and rangatahi (youth) across diverse communities.
