Kōrero mō te tūranga – About the role

This is an excellent opportunity to gain experience in paediatric dentistry in a supportive environment with opportunities to learn and develop. This role provides routine care to pre-schoolers and school age tamariki enrolled with the Bee Healthy Regional Dental Service.

In term 2 (May – July), the Community Dentist(s) will provide basic exams and treatments for tamariki while also providing mentoring for newly graduated oral health therapists as part of our ongoing mentoring programme. In terms 3 and 4 (July – December), the Community Dentist(s) will do ACC assessments and treatments, hypomineralisation consultations, and also provide treatments beyond the scope of oral health therapists.

Mō tō mātou rōpū – About our team

We provide clinical services, early intervention, and oral health promotion and education to 75,000 children (from birth to school year 8) in Porirua, Kāpiti Coast, Hutt Valley and Wellington. We have 60 dental and oral health therapists (plus their assistants) working in 13 hubs around the region, and we operate 12 mobile vans. We work actively with our communities to address inequities in oral health outcomes and access to services, and we are continuing to develop and evolve our model of care to improve outcomes even further.

Each of our hubs has a team of dental/oral health therapists and assistants who work together to provide care for the tamariki in their region.

Clinical advice and guidance is always available by phone or email from our clinical director (or delegate).

  • Registered as a Dentist with the Dental Council of New Zealand
  • Bachelor of Dental Surgery or equivalent
  • Interest in paediatric dentistry
  • Able to provide consistently high standards of medical care
  • Relevant experience and training
