About the role
We are excited to be recruiting a permanent, full-time role (1.0 FTE, 40 hours per week) Cardiologist position at Dunedin Hospital. This post is a replacement post and would be for a Cardiologist with an interest in PCI and structural heart work such as TAVR, TEER, and LAA closure.
The appointee is expected to:
- conduct face-to-face patient clinics, providing comprehensive assessments and management plans for a range of cardiac conditions
- participate in diagnostic angiography, right heart catheterisation, PCI (including OCT, Shockwave, IVUS), and structural work including TAVR, TEER, and LAA closure
- collaborate with general medicine teams in managing complex cardiac cases including providing an in-hospital consult service.
This role does have an on-call component for both general cardiology and the 24/7 primary PCI roster for the Otago/Southland region. We have strong links with the Dunedin School of Medicine, the University of Otago, and the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Surgeons Integrated Training Program site.
Dunedin Hospital is situated in Dunedin, a thriving and busy city in Otago, Te Wāipounamu/South Island, New Zealand. Dunedin has good shopping and excellent restaurants in the city along with some excellent sports facilities including our Super Rugby team, the Highlanders. Dunedin is situated just hours drive from Fiordland National Park and Queenstown/Wānaka. There are several of New Zealand’s Great Walks within three hours drive of the city centre. Dunedin Airport is served with flights to Christchurch, Wellington, Auckland, and the Gold Coast.
About you
Appointed specialists will possess the FRACP or an equivalent qualification, allowing vocational registration with the New Zealand Medical Council.

Salary range
This role belongs to the ASMS Collective Agreement and falls between Step 1 ($198,386) and Step 15 ($282,645) per annum pro-rata.
