About the role

We are looking for passion from a skilled clinician to become part of our close-knit multidisciplinary team, where you’ll play a key role in delivering high-quality psychiatric assessment and care. This is more than just a clinical role – you’ll have the opportunity to lead, influence, and help shape the future of our Mental Health Service.

You’ll work with older persons, collaborating closely with the primary health sector and contributing to a model of care that reflects Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora – Southern’s values. Your ideas and initiative will be valued as you help drive service improvement and workforce innovation.

The role also offers variety and balance, with participation in a well-supported on-call roster (currently 1:18).

About you

The role available is 0.5 FTE inpatient work on the 12 bed MHSOP inpatient ward, and 0.5 working in the MHSOP Community team. You’ll be part of a supportive, high-performing multidisciplinary team where collaboration is at the heart of everything we do. You’ll bring a strong personal commitment to clinical excellence, along with the confidence to provide clear, reliable medical input and leadership that helps guide and strengthen the team.

This is a role for someone who truly values people. You’ll champion service user and family/whānau inclusion, with a strong focus on recovery-oriented care, while demonstrating a genuine understanding of and commitment to biculturalism.

We’re looking for a clinician who is not only dedicated to high standards of practice, but also to ongoing growth. You will be someone who actively engages in continuing professional development and is passionate about teaching and mentoring students at all stages of their training.

You’ll also contribute to the wider service through participation in the on-call roster, providing after-hours support across the Southland region.

To be successful, you will:

• hold fellowship with the RANZCP (or equivalent) and be eligible for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand
• have a full driver’s licence (required).
