About the role
Health New Zealand – Te Whatu Ora are seeking a dedicated Paediatrician to join our dynamic team at Dunedin Hospital. You will provide expert care to children and adolescents across inpatient, outpatient, and community settings. This is a permanent position with opportunities for subspecialty development. The role is a full-time position, however the department is open to negotiating part-time positions.
Key responsibilities include the following:
- Deliver comprehensive paediatric care to improve the health of children and adolescents in inpatient and outpatient settings, including rural and community outreach
- Participate in the 1:7 shared on-call roster
- Supervise and mentor junior medical staff and students
- Collaborate with allied health professionals and community services
- Contribute to service development and quality improvement initiatives
What you need to work here
To practise as a Paediatrician in New Zealand, you must be registered with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ) and hold a current Annual Practising Certificate (APC).
International applicants will need a postgraduate qualification comparable to Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians (FRACP in Paediatrics) or another recognised paediatric qualification.

The ideal applicant will:
- hold vocational registration or eligibility for registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand
- hold Fellowship of the RACP or equivalent paediatric qualification
- bring medical expertise and experience to an acute tertiary care hospital and contribute to the advanced care of acute paediatric inpatients and a full
- spectrum of general paediatric outpatients, including behavioural and developmental
- have strong communication and skills to work collaboratively in a multi-disciplinary team
- have a commitment to equity, cultural safety, and child-centred care.

Salary range
This role belongs to the ASMS Collective Agreement and falls between Step 1 ($185,380) and Step 15 ($267,980 per annum pro-rata).
