Kōrero mō te tūranga – About the role

This is an exciting opportunity to work in a state-of-the art department supported by a highly effective emergency department team.

We are a mixed adult/paediatric urban district ED seeing 52,000 patients per year with an admission rate of 24 – 25% and we are supported by a 16 bed Medical Planning & Assessment Unit, as well as excellent medical, surgical and paediatric teams. The Hutt Hospital is also the regional centre for Burns and Plastics.

Our department is part of the emergency medicine sub-regional training program working with Wellington Regional Hospital, has 18 junior staff and has TS4 accreditation for 24 months registrar training. Staffing has recently increased for both senior and junior medical staff, nursing including nurse practitioners and clinical nurse specialists.

Our position is permanent 0.75 FTE of which 30% is non clinical time to support internal audits, research and development opportunities. There are expectations that you will be involved with quality group meetings and hold a mutually agreed upon clinical portfolio.

  • Vocationally registered in Emergency Medicine with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ)
  • FACEM or equivalent qualification (FRCEM or ABEM) and be able to register for vocational registration with the MCNZ
  • Work in collaboration with multidisciplinary team
  • Able to provide consistently high standards of medical care
  • Relevant consultant experience and training
