Kōrero mō te tūranga – About the role

We’re looking for a permanent full time Developmental Paediatrician to join our team at the Hutt Hospital.

The Developmental Paediatrician is part of the Paediatric team. A core aspect of this role is holding joint clinics with Child Developmental Service (CDS) providing child and whānau centred developmental assessments.

The Hutt Child Development service provide services to children and young people (0 to 16) who have been identified as having a physical, sensory or intellectual disability or a combination of these, which is likely to continue for a minimum of six months, children who are at risk of developing such a disability or have developmental delay, children who have Autistic Spectrum Disorder and whanau, families, caregivers and advocates associated with the above children.

The Developmental Paediatrician role includes liaising with other agencies and providing follow up as required. The position includes supervision of RMO staff in the service and the provision of consultancy and advice to other practitioners both within Hutt Valley District and in the broader community.

This role may include opportunities to participate in child protection work and other community paediatric activities.

The department would be happy to discuss options for general paediatric or on call work if this suits the applicant.

The Hutt Paediatric Department provide inpatient and outpatient care for children and young people up to 16 years including a level 2 neonatal care unit. The general and developmental paediatricians enjoy close working relationships and have good connections to our local child and youth adolescent mental health services. There is a weekly interagency meetings which provides a strong links to other services including Oranga Tamarki, disability services, Ministry of Education and Resource Teachers of Behaviour and Learning.

  • Vocationally registered in Paediatrics with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ)
  • FACP or equivalent qualification and be able to register for vocational registration with the MCNZ
  • Work in collaboration with multidisciplinary team
  • Able to provide consistently high standards of medical care
  • Relevant experience and training
