About the role

We are seeking an enthusiastic Consultant General Medicine Physician to join our Hutt Hospital team.

Ideally we are looking for a general physician with experience in stroke medicine, who is interested in working across both services. We also invite applications from those trained solely in General Medicine or dual trained in any other medical subspecialty.

This is a senior leadership role within the 54 bed acute medical ward and the 16 bed medical assessment and planning unit. Our general physicians work on a team with a registrar and house officer, and collaborate with nursing and allied health staff to care for acutely unwell medical inpatients.

About the Team/Service/Location

Our service provides a consistently high standard of medical care to patients in inpatient, outpatient, virtual and community settings. The team is dynamic and forward thinking, embracing new ideas and working across services to provide the best outcomes for our patients. We have an inpatient Cardiology team on-site, 24/7 virtual telestroke service, and on-site physicians specialising in respiratory, infectious disease, endocrine, gastroenterology, rheumatology, and geriatric medicine.

Wellington Hospital provides tertiary services and access to other medical subspecialties.

Capital, Coast and Hutt Valley district is located centrally in Wellington and has over 6,000 full-time equivalent staff, making us one of the major employers in the Wellington region. We operate three hospitals – Wellington Regional Hospital in Newtown, Hutt Valley Hospital and Kenepuru Hospital in Porirua – as well as the Kāpiti Health Centre at Paraparaumu.

About you:

  • Vocationally registered in internal medicine with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ)
