Kōrero mō te tūranga – About the role

We have a dedicated Rehabilitation Unit based at Kenepuru Hospital in Porirua.   The person in this role will be part of the wider Older Adults, Rehabilitation and Allied Health service.  The service spans three of our community bases, as well as both acute settings in the Wellington Regional Hospital and Kenepuru Community Hospital.

This is one of 2 Rehabilitation Physician roles, together they cover the Inpatient Rehabilitation ward, outpatient clinics and work alongside the community MDT’s.

The inpatient unit is a busy rehabilitation ward with a cross mix of diagnosis including stroke; amputee’s; and other neurological conditions.  The unit is supported by an Early Supported Discharge service (AWHI) and community teams who provide rehabilitation to enable rehabilitation to continue across the continuum.  The community teams work with adults (from 16 and up) with a range of conditions, the majority being chronic neurological.

As a senior medical officer, you will provide specialist clinical services and also training and mentoring for junior medical staff attached to the Rehabilitation Services. The on call requirement is 1:7-8 on-call.

  • Vocationally registered in Internal Medicine with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ)
  • FRACP or equivalent qualification and be able to register for vocational registration with the MCNZ
  • Rehabilitation medicine for adults (16 and upwards)
  • Work in collaboration with multidisciplinary team
  • Able to provide consistently high standards of medical care
  • Relevant experience and training
