About the role

Nelson Hospital is seeking a dedicated and experienced General Medicine Physician to join our dynamic and collegial medical team. This is an excellent opportunity to practise, rewarding and challenging general medicine in a supportive secondary care setting, while contributing to service development and the future of healthcare delivery in the region.

As a key member of our General Medicine Service, you will:

  • provide high-quality, patient-centred care across acute and inpatient settings
  • work closely with a skilled multidisciplinary team to deliver excellent outcomes for the Nelson population
  • deliver high quality services to improve health of the population in Nelson
  • participate in the general medicine acute roster with four hours average call-back a week.
  • teach and develop our growing junior medical workforce
  • contribute to the design of services fit for the future, including contributing to the design of our newly approved 225-bed clinical services block.

Our team provides a comprehensive range of general medical care across acute and inpatient settings, supported by a well-resourced and collaborative multidisciplinary team. The culture is one of strong collegiality, shared decision-making, and mutual support.

Nelson Hospital is a modern, 150-bed secondary care facility that serves the top of the South Island, offering a vibrant working environment with a focus on quality patient outcomes.

About you

The ideal applicant will:

  • bring strong general medical expertise and experience to an acute secondary care hospital and contribute to advanced care of acute inpatients and outpatients across the region
  • have one of the following subspecialty interests: renal, respiratory, and stroke medicine, however, all areas will be considered
  • hold Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians or equivalent
  • be eligible for an Annual Practising Certificate and vocational scope of Internal Medicine/Rural Hospital Medicine with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
