Required qualifications: The ideal applicant will: hold or be eligible for C-QuiP certification for colposcopy hold FRANZCOG or equivalent post graduate qualification in Obstetrics and Gynaecology be eligible for an Annual Practising Certificate and vocational scope of Obstetrics and Gynaecology with the Medical Council of New Zealand.

About the role

You will join a supportive multidisciplinary team to improve health and well-being of the female population in the Nelson region.

The team includes:

  • five Obstetrics and Gynaecology (O&G) Specialists in Nelson
  • four Obstetrics and Gynaecology (O&G) Specialists at Wairau Hospital in Blenheim
  • one RANZCOG Advanced O&G Trainee
  • two House Surgeons
  • one Trainee Intern (through University of Otago, Christchurch)
  • midwives.

As an O&G Specialist, you will provide medical and surgical care related to pregnancy, childbirth, and the female reproductive system, addressing a wide range of health concerns from routine antenatal care to complex gynaecological conditions. In addition, you will teach and develop our junior medical team.

Nelson Hospital’s O&G service is dedicated to providing high-quality care for women at all stages of life, from pregnancy and childbirth to gynaecological health and well-being. Our obstetric services include antenatal care, labour and delivery, with a strong focus on promoting safe and positive birth experiences. For gynaecological care, we offer a wide range of services, including the management of menstrual disorders, menopause, pelvic pain, and gynaecological surgeries. Our team of experienced specialists, midwives, and nursing staff is committed to delivering patient-centred care, ensuring the best possible outcomes through evidence-based practice and compassionate support.

The O&G team at Nelson Hospital works closely with primary care providers, midwives, and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless, coordinated care. We are dedicated to supporting women and their families with expert guidance, advanced medical treatment, and a commitment to excellence in women’s health.

About you

The ideal applicant will:

  • bring their O&G expertise and competencies to contribute to the advanced treatment and medical care of the female patients in the region
  • have experience in advanced laparoscopic surgery and pelvic floor surgery
  • hold or be eligible for C-QuiP certification for colposcopy
  • hold FRANZCOG or equivalent post graduate qualification in Obstetrics and Gynaecology
  • be eligible for an Annual Practising Certificate and vocational scope of Obstetrics and Gynaecology with the Medical Council of New Zealand.
