About the role
As a Consultant Adult Community Psychiatrist, you will play a key role in the assessment and management of adult outpatients, developing and implementing comprehensive treatment programmes that address psychological, social, and medication needs. You will also ensure effective follow-up and continuity of care within a regional secondary care service.
You will be part of the multidisciplinary team includes Mental Health Nurses, Clinical Psychologists, Social Workers, Occupational Therapists, and other allied health professionals who work collaboratively to support people with a wide range of mental health disorders.
The position offers a varied and rewarding caseload across a broad range of acute mental health conditions, with opportunities to contribute to service development, multidisciplinary collaboration, and clinical education.
About the Team/Service/Location
The Nelson Mental Health & Addictions Service provides a comprehensive range of services across inpatient, community, and specialist care. The team works closely with individuals, their families, whānau, carers, primary care providers, and community agencies to deliver patient-centred, recovery-focused care.
The Adult Community Psychiatry team provides specialist mental health assessment, treatment, and ongoing support for adults aged 18 to 65 years experiencing moderate to severe mental health conditions in the Nelson community.

About you
The ideal applicant will:
- hold Fellowship of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists, or equivalent
- be eligible for an Annual Practising Certificate and vocational registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand
- have experience working as a consultant in outpatient psychiatry Unit including providing assessment, diagnosis, and treatment interventions to individuals suffering from mental health and addictive disorders
- have strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary team to promote a cohesive team culture of collaborative practice, openness, humour, and respect across disciplines.
