About the Service

Southern DHB offers a comprehensive range of Rheumatology services in both of our main hospitals, located in Dunedin and Invercargill, as well as outpatient clinics in other areas of the district. Southland Hospital, in Invercargill has 180 beds and provides care for a population of approximately 100,000. Invercargill is situated at the base of the South Island and the people are renowned for their warmth and hospitality, there is space in abundance and you are surrounded by national parks. The two main hospitals in Southern DHB provide care for the population of the whole of the lower South Island.

The Rheumatology Service at Southland Hospital is primarily an outpatient service, you will be responsible for providing effective and efficient inpatient and outpatient services for our patients with mirrored approach to Dunedin Hospital

Management of a diverse spectrum of inflammatory rheumatic disease within a multidisciplinary team
Robust therapeutic and diagnostic modalities available at world class standards
Highly integrated, collaborative department, supporting work-life balance
Our patient population is predominantly inflammatory arthritis with a high prevalence of connective tissue disorders and vasculitis. We undertake a range of procedures and have available clinic based ultrasound and nail fold video capillaroscopy. In addition to conventional radiology, CT and MRI, we have easy access to Nuclear Medicine SPECT scans, and state -of -the art immunology laboratory diagnostics.

About you

Fellowship with the RACP or the equivalent is essential, due to the FTE nature of this role you must hold or be eligible for vocational registration with the NZ Medical Council.
