Southland Hospital

Our team at Southland Hospital is excited to announce we are remodelling our Critical Care Unit at Southland Hospital! This recent development meant that we have opportunities for a physician with an interest in critical care medicine, Dual Trained Specialist Intensivists, or anaesthetists or emergency medical specialist an interest in critical care medicine.
Currently, Southland Hospital has a six bed Critical Care Unit and following significant investment we are aiming to have the necessary staffing and resourcing for two Intensive Care level beds and four high-dependency care level beds. The current six bed critical care admits around 500 patients per annum. The case mix will be diverse given our large geographical catchment area with the ability to cater for general medical, surgical and trauma patients. Paediatric and burns patients can also be stabilised and cared for in the ICU until aeromedical transportation to other centres can be arranged if required.
During our recruitment phase of remodelling our critical care unit duties will be conducted as part of a shared roster with anaesthesia department colleagues. Clinical and non-clinical duties will be rostered as per ASMS contract agreement. You will be expected to undertake a full share of the Intensive Care on-call roster with other members of the team. With the development of our service other duties will include participation in teaching and supervision of junior doctors, nurses and medical students, team ward rounds, quality and safety activities, audit and clinical review meetings.

Utu whānui – Salary range
This role belongs to the ASMS Collective Agreement and falls between the Step 1 ($185,380) and Step 15 ($267,980 per annum pro rata).
