About the role

The O&G service at Tairāwhiti is a small, dynamic team looking to employ a suitably qualified O&G specialist to join the service. This role will work collaboratively and cohesively with the other team members to provide effective services for the Tairāwhiti region.

The department is hospital based and provides a mix of inpatient, emergency and outpatient services for a community of approximately 50,000 people, with approximately 700 births per year.

Skills and experience

Candidates applying for this position are expected to have a general scope of O&G skills including the following:

  • Obstetrics: clinical expertise in the management of antenatal, intrapartum and postnatal care of obstetric patients with moderate levels of complexity including medical complications, abnormal labours and operative deliveries
  • Gynaecology: colposcopy, LLETZ procedure, laparoscopic surgery and pelvic organ prolapse repair
    We are looking for applicants who are keen to work in partnership with our head of department and other team members to develop our O&G services and work on continuous improvement within our department.

Time is split with 70% clinical responsibilities and 30% non-clinical.

It is expected that you will also participate in the on average 1:4 or 1:5 (but can be 1:3 when necessary for internal cover) on-call roster covering maternity, acute gynaecology admissions and gynaecology inpatients.
