Kōrero mō te tūranga – About the role

We are welcoming applications for a Specialist Anaesthetist (SMO) to join the Department of Anaesthesia and Critical Care at Health New Zealand – Te Whatu Ora Taranaki. Our team currently comprises of 27 specialist anaesthetists, 1 fellow and 7 registrars.

The department supports a range of clinical services including anaesthesia, peri-operative and pain medicine, and intensive care. The Department has a strong commitment to excellence in clinical, education, quality, and research activities, and has a significant interest in development of processes of care.

We are looking for someone that:

• has a positive, enthusiastic, team-orientated personality with a strong interest in innovation and development of services and models of care
• is patient-focused in the provision of high quality clinical care
• will facilitate and promote a co-operative, multi-disciplinary team approach to all aspects of the service
• will contribute to and value teaching/training at undergraduate and postgraduate levels
• will be actively involved in and supportive of research activities within the department
• maximises the efficient use of Te Whatu Ora Taranaki Health resources, to provide optimum care to all patients
• contributes to audit and other departmental maintenance of standards processes
• exhibits behaviours that demonstrate respect for colleagues and facilitate good communication within the department and with other departments
• participates in the afterhours on-call roster.
