We are currently expanding our team and whether you’re a new Consultant or someone with many years of Specialty Paediatrics under your belt, you will find this role, team and department the perfect place to feel valued. You will be joining a dedicated team of four other General Paediatricians with sub-speciality interests with whom you will share a 1:5 on call roster. Our team is ably supported by Senior House Officers, Registrars and an experienced, stable nursing staff.

Mō te tūranga – About the role

It’s really important to us that you’re a Specialist who believes that the patient is at the centre of all that you do, actively including family/whanau as a standard part of your practice. Your communication skills, with patients and your colleagues will be excellent, and your ability to contribute within a positive team environment will be essential. In this role you’ll be exposed to a wide and varied pathology and supported by strong links with tertiary providers throughout New Zealand. You will provide comprehensive general paediatric inpatient and outpatient care and support a level two Neonatal service with up to 1,600 deliveries per annum. There is potential to focus on outpatient care only. Our team also provides outreach/rural outpatient clinics in Gore and Queenstown (one of New Zealand’s major tourist destinations, which is a comfortable 2 hour drive from Invercargill).

We have a close working relationships with our colleagues at Dunedin Hospital and in particular with the team who work in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), the closest tertiary provider and referral centre. The Paediatric Department is actively involved in teaching, and we are affiliated with the Dunedin School of Medicine, actively supporting 5th and 6th year medical students, and acting in Senior Lecturer roles with the School of Medicine.

As an outstanding team player, you’ll have the energy to make a positive difference with both patients and colleagues alike. You must be FRACP qualified (or equivalent) and hold, or be eligible for, vocational registration with Medical Council of NZ. If you are an international candidate you can be considered for this role under the condition, you are eligible for vocational registration with the MCNZ. We would consider candidates who are close to completing their your specialist training and be eligible for vocational registration with Medical Council of New Zealand.

    Utu whānui – Salary range

This role belongs to the ASMS Collective Agreement and falls between the Step 1 ($170,369) and Step 15 ($250,560 per annum pro rata) – dependant on prior experience
