Here in Southland the people are renowned for their warmth and hospitality. Invercargill is a small city with a big sense of community, where people matter. Our consultants spend their free time skiing or mountain biking in Queenstown and Wanaka or hiking in Fiordland and Mount Aspiring National parks. Great surfing and family swimming beaches can be found right in Invercargill or close by in the Catlins and Riverton. Fishing, diving, and hunting are also among the best in New Zealand. There are never crowds and you will feel like the world is all yours!

Invercargill is a safe place for families with excellent schooling and loads of activities to occupy children of all ages! The airport has direct flights to Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch, so access in and out of Invercargill is easy. Housing is among the most affordable in New Zealand.

Mō mātou – About us

Our consultants are rostered for four 10 hour shifts per week (three clinical and one non-clinical at 1.0 FTE) so there plenty of free time for a work-life balance. The department is accredited for 12 months of advanced training with the Australian College of Emergency Medicine (and Paediatric logbook), teaching is a major part of this role, with programmes for our registrars, house officers, and nurse specialists, including ultrasound. We have a brand new state of the art SIM facility.

Southland Hospital has 181 beds and is the regional referral, teaching and trauma centre for a population of 105,000 and a rural catchment area that stretches from Stewart Island to Te Anau and Queenstown. The Emergency Department has approximately 39,000 presentations per annum, with a modern open plan design that supports 21 beds.We are looking for energetic and outgoing team players to join our team. We are also open to candidates who are looking at fixed-term positions or reduced hours.

This role belongs to the ASMS Collective Agreement and falls between the Step 1 ($170,369) and Step 15 ($250,560 p.a pro rata).
