Mō te tūranga – About the role

We are looking for someone to join our dedicated team for a permanent role as a General Surgeon with a Colorectal subspecialty interest (CSSANZ or equivalent training). You will have the opportunity to treat a varied caseload with a predominantly Colorectal elective workload. The department has subspecialty surgeons in Breast, Endocrine, Bariatrics and Benign UGI. You will join a busy Colorectal unit, which is in need of a dedicated Colorectal surgeon with post fellowship training in benign and malignant Colorectal disease. The role encompasses acute and elective theatre with a 1:7 on call roster, endoscopy lists, dedicated PRB clinics, outpatient clinics and MDM sessions. There is also ample opportunity and support for ongoing Education and Research with close links to the University of Otago with an onsite Research assistant.

Southland Hospital

Southland Hospital has 180+ beds and is the regional referral and teaching and trauma centre for a population of 150,000 and a rural catchment area that stretches from Stewart Island to Te Anau and Queenstown. There are four theatres, and 40 beds in Surgical Ward. The Emergency Department has approximately 36,000 presentations per annum, with a modern open plan design that supports 21 beds (which includes six observations beds). Southland Hospital built in 2004, is a state-of-the-art facility that provides healthcare with the latest in PACS digital radiology, MRI, CT, NM, and a limited scope of interventional procedures.

Utu whānui – Salary range

This role belongs to the ASMS Collective Agreement and falls between the Step 1 ($170,369) and Step 15 ($250,560 p.a prorata)
