Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora is firmly grounded in the principles of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and is committed to building a health system that serves all New Zealanders.
About the role
Waitematā District are looking for an energetic, self-motivated Senior Medical Officer to join our team, who either has experience or an interest in managing acute stroke patients. Having recently opened Integrated Stroke Units in each of our two hospitals, this is an exciting opportunity to drive the direction of care for stroke patients within our catchment.
About the location
Auckland New Zealand consistently ranks as one of the world’s most liveable cities. The 2024 Mercer Quality of Living Survey ranks Auckland in fifth place. The natural environment and subtropical climate, stable political and social environment, and a comprehensive publicly funded health system were the top three contributing factors for Auckland achieving this spot in the rankings.
Waitematā District is a major provider of health care services in North and West Auckland, serving a population of approximately 640,000 people and employing more than 8,800 people. Both of our hospitals are easily accessible from central Auckland, giving you an opportunity to base yourself anywhere in the Auckland region. Auckland’s North Shore is one of Auckland’s most desirable locales, combining well-established urban areas with pockets of native bush, golden beaches, and thriving café culture. There are many quality options for public, private, and integrated schooling in the area. Waitākere is in West Auckland and is an area known for rugged hills, pristine native bush, scenic waterfalls, walking and biking tracks, and black sand surf beaches.
As part of the continuous improvement and innovation of our services, you will be actively involved in driving new and exciting changes in the models of care that we deliver to our patients, both now and into the future. Our DHB is undertaking ongoing improvement of our facilities to provide international best standard care for our patients and community. We offer ongoing support for continuing medical education and our Division has extensive scope for research and clinical audits in either general medicine or stroke medicine.
About you
To be successful in this role, you will:
- deliver excellent clinical services with the support of junior medical staff, management, and other health professionals in a collegial and collaborative environment
- have experience and knowledge that will also positively assist us as we grow and train our future health workforce
- be registered (or able to register) with the Medical Council of New Zealand and hold a FRACP (or equivalent).
We welcome applications or expressions of interest from consultants at all stages of their medical career. If you are from overseas or outside of Auckland, our Global Mobility Consultant will help with the logistics of immigration and relocation to make your move as smooth as possible.
If required, we can also offer you the flexibility of part-time employment.
