We are looking for a Consultant Psychiatrist with Child & Adolescent speciality or experience in working with young people.

The Early Intervention Service is an innovative, creative multidisciplinary team which offers assessment and treatment to young people (13 to 25 years) presenting to mental health services with a first-time psychotic disorder – we work hard to minimise the impact of the disorder on young peoples’ lives through offering a client centred, strengths based and collaborative support programme. The team are inspired by the recovery–focused framework laid out in the book Recovery after a first episode of psychosis. We regularly evaluate our outcomes allowing us to constantly adjust, improve and innovate the services we provide.

We provide a sub-regional service across the Greater Wellington Region (Welington, Poriua, Kapiti and Hutt)  as well as delivering consultation-liaison and training to mental health services in the Central Region district.

  • Vocationally registered in Psychiatry with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ)
  • FRANZCP or equivalent qualification and be able to register for vocational registration with the MCNZ
  • Interest in working with young people and contributing to their recovery from first episode psychosis
  • Work in collaboration with multidisciplinary team
  • Able to provide consistently high standards of medical care
  • Has extensive knowledge of intellectual disability service delivery
  • Relevant experience and training

The Mental Health, Addiction and Intellectual Disability Service (MHAIDS) spans three DHBs – Wairarapa, Hutt Valley and Capital and Coast DHB’s and includes local, regional, and national services. The local MHAIDS services are provided from multiple sites within the 3DHB sub-region – greater Wellington, Hutt Valley and Wairarapa. Te Korowai Whariki services include regional forensic and rehabilitation services covering the Central region while the intellectual disability services extend the length and breadth of the country from six bases located in Whangarei, Auckland, Cambridge, Wellington, Christchurch, and Dunedin.
