Kōrero mō te tūranga – About the role

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced consultant paediatrician to join our team in Wellington on a full-time basis for 12 months. Wellington Hospital Children’s Health is a dynamic service and we are looking a fully trained and qualified paediatrician to join our collegial team.

Experience in, or desire to develop, sub-speciality areas of interest which would complement existing service provision would be welcomed. The successful candidate will participate in the general paediatric on-call roster (1 in 12) excluding neonatology and contribute to the teaching and supervision of undergraduates, (SHO’s) and Registrars.

We are looking for someone who is willing and able assist with the supervision and instruction of junior medical staff within the service

Be part of the transition into Te Wao Nui, the new name for our integrated Child Health Service, which opened in October 2022 and brings child health services under one roof for the first time – allowing for the integration of inpatient and outpatient services, as well as encouraging clinical collaboration and communication

Our service provides a wide range of secondary and tertiary in-patient and outpatient services for the children of the region, across three sites Wellington Children’s Hospital; Kenepuru Hospital and Kapiti Health Centre. With two inpatient wards at Wellington Children’s Hospital, split by medical care (including the Paediatric Oncology Service) and surgical care (includes the adolescent service) comprises resourced inpatient cots/beds for 60 infants, children and young people.

  • Vocationally registered in paediatrics with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ)
  • FRACP or equivalent qualification and be able to register for with the MCNZ
  • Able to work independently and in collaboration with the multidisciplinary team
  • Able to provide consistently high standards of medical care
  • Relevant experience and training
