Kōrero mō te tūranga – About the role

The successful candidates will have extensive experience in general surgery but will also have subspecialty expertise in UGI. They will contribute to the general surgery service, trauma and general acutes and will also support an existing team of experienced surgeons to grow and develop provision of UGI services for our patients. Skills in both open and laparoscopic surgery are essential.

Mō tō mātou rōpū – About our team

Capital and Coast provides UGI tertiary and acute services to both Wellington and central regional patients. Support is provided to general surgeons within the region. The unit currently has two surgeons (one HPB and one UGI), one CNS role, a Fellow and an RMO team. We manage patients with benign and malignant disease. Our work is driven by faster cancer treatment timeframes. The teams manage work in the operating theatre, endoscopy and clinic settings.  Support to the training of junior medical staff is integral to the roles.

  • Vocationally registered in General Surgery with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ)
  • FRACS or equivalent qualification and be able to register for with the MCNZ
  • Work in collaboration with multidisciplinary team
  • Able to provide consistently high standards of medical care
  • Relevant experience and training
