About the role
We are currently seeking a part-time, fixed-term Medical Oncologist to cover paternity leave.
The Medical Oncologist is responsible for:
- providing specialist assessment, diagnosis, and treatment for patients with cancer
- working within a multidisciplinary team to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care
- managing systemic anti-cancer therapies, contributing to tumour stream multidisciplinary meetings
- supporting equitable access to evidence-based oncology services across the district.
The Medical Oncologist will also contribute to service development, teaching and supervision of junior medical staff, and participate in research and quality improvement activities aligned with national and regional cancer priorities.
A range of cancer services are provided by Capital, Coast, and Hutt District including Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, and Haematology services. We are looking for a Medical Oncologist to join this dynamic and innovative team.

Capital, Coast, and Hutt Valley district is located centrally in Wellington and has over 6,000 full-time equivalent staff, making us one of the major employers in the Wellington region. We operate three hospitals – Wellington Regional Hospital in Newtown, Hutt Valley Hospital, and Kenepuru Hospital in Porirua, as well as the Kāpiti Health Centre at Paraparaumu.
About you
You will:
- be vocationally registered in Internal Medicine (Medical Oncology) with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ)
- have FRACP or an equivalent qualification, and be able to register for vocational registration with the MCNZ
- have sub-specialty expertise in melanoma, lung cancer, and head and neck cancer (advantageous, but not required)
- work in collaboration with multidisciplinary team
- be able to provide consistently high standards of medical care
- have relevant experience and training.
