About the role
Health New Zealand – Te Whatu Ora – Whanganui has an exciting opportunity for a permanent, part-time or full-time (0.6 – 1 FTE) role commencing as soon as possible – there is flexibility with the commencement. In this role, you will provide a high standard of clinical expertise in the specialist assessment and management of older patients, contributing to the provision of efficient and effective medical services to the community and region served by Health New Zealand – Te Whatu Ora – Whanganui. An interest in stroke, movement disorders and orthogeriatric liaison is encouraged.
Our inpatient services in Whanganui is a 6 bed critical care unit, a 35-bed medical ward, 40-bed Surgical Ward, and a dedicated 16-bed Acute Stroke Unit/Assessment, Treatment and Rehabilitation Ward. The team consists of 6 General Physicians, 1 Rheumatologist and 2 Geriatricians.
About the Team/Service/Location
Whanganui Hospital is located on the West coast of New Zealand’s North Island with a wide range of services including:
- emergency medicine
- general medicine
- general surgery
- orthopaedics
- O&G
- ENT
- ophthalmology
- dentistry
- psychiatry.
We serve a population of approximately 65,000 residents and serves as a central hub for the 16,000 people residing in the surrounding districts across the region.
We provide a six-bed critical care unit with tertiary support from Wellington Hospital. Tertiary services such as cardio-thoracics, neurosurgery, paediatric surgery and cardiology are provided for our patients in Wellington.
