Job description

Location: Wellington Hospital

Duration: Permanent - start date TBC

FTE: Full time (1.0)

On call component: On-call roster 1 in 3 to cover clot retrieval services.

Seize this exciting opportunity to be part of the neurodiagnostic/neurointerventional team, and have a role in the development and expansion of a Central Region Stroke Thrombectomy service based at Wellington Regional Hospital, Capital & Coast District Health Board New Zealand.

Neurointervention is an active and growing service in the hospital performing between 60 – 70 endovascular cerebral aneurysm cases per year and approximately 30 - 40 other neurointerventional cases (AVM embolisation, treatment of spinal lesions and stroke).

Over the last two years a limited, in-hours Thrombectomy pilot has demonstrated the advantages of endovascular clot retrieval for the local population. As a result, the DHB intends to expand the service to provide clot retrieval to a population of approximately 900,000.

We are seeking a third, experienced Neurointerventionalist to join the established team to enable a clot retrieval service for the region. The applicant would expect to work closely with the established Neurointerventionlists and the Neurology department to develop a sustainable and reliable service. The expansion of the service is planned to include:

An upgraded biplane interventional laboratory
Additional Neurologist, Administration and Radiology technician resource
Additional inpatient capacity
The successful applicant will also have strength in neurodiagnostic imaging, including advanced techniques such as spectroscopy, DTI and functional imaging.

Wellington Regional Hospital is one of New Zealand’s five tertiary medical centres and our radiology department is a recognised training institution for Registrars, MRTs and Sonographers.

The Radiology department boasts a dynamic and diverse team of 18 radiologists who work closely together in a strong collegial environment. We have a new MR suite with 1.5 and 3.0 Tesla magnets and have recently upgraded our 2 CT scanners.

Enjoy the great work / life balance and the benefits of living in “the coolest little capital city” with big city advantages. It is a food lover's paradise and a cultural art loving harbour city; a place you quickly begin to call home. Wellington has been named one of the top cities in the world to visit; we also think it’s a great place to live.
