Job description

Capital and Coast DHB (CCDHB) is located centrally in Wellington and has the equivalent of around 4,300 full time staff, making us a major employer in the Wellington region. We are also the leading provider of a number of specialist services, including neurosurgery, oncology, neonatal intensive care, specialised mental health services and support a population of about 900,000 people. Our DHB has an annual budget of more than $1 billion, which we use to deliver health services directly and contract external providers to provide care, such as general practices, rest homes and pharmacists.

Wellington is New Zealand’s capital. It is a “foodies” paradise, cultural art-loving harbour city, and a place you quickly begin to call home. Wellington has been named the best place to live in the world by Deutsche Bank’s 2017 study of 47 cities globally ranked. According to Deutsche Bank, it is also officially the city with the world's highest quality of life and has the least pollution of any city ranked.

CCDHB has a small number of Christchurch based employees (see below). Christchurch is New Zealand's second largest city, currently re-emerging from the 2010-2011 earthquakes to be a vibrant, modern city with plenty of attractions for both enthusiasts of city living and those that enjoy easy access to the numerous outdoor pursuits nearby. Christchurch is located on the East coast of the South Island and provides a high quality lifestyle for both old and young.

Genetic Health Service NZ (GHSNZ) is a national multidisciplinary clinical and diagnostic Genetic Service. CCDHB provides two Hubs for GHSNZ, based in Christchurch (|South Island Hub) and Wellington (Central Hub). The two Hubs provide clinical genetics services to 50% of the population of NZ, from Taranaki in the North Island to Invercargill at the southern tip of the South Island. Clinical staff in the two Hubs are part of the national service and work closely with colleagues in the Northern Hub based in Auckland.

We seek qualified clinical geneticists to join our existing clinical teams, with permanent positions (part time or full time) available in both Hubs. You should be able to demonstrate broad training experience in all aspects of clinical genetics, and additional experience in Genomics Medicine would be advantageous. There is an expectation that you will participate in our extensive outreach clinic program, and there may also be opportunities to engage with our local laboratory providers and to participate in providing educational activities.

These positions offer some flexibility in terms of location and part/full time options to be agreed at appointment. If you see your future in our GHSNZ team, please feel free to contact us to discuss further.

Applicants must be qualified as a medical practitioner, with an MBChB or equivalent, and have completed specialty training (FRACP or equivalent). You should also be registered or eligible for registration by the Medical Council of New Zealand in the Vocational Scope of Clinical Genetics.

This position will be covered by the terms and conditions included in the Multi Employer Collective Agreement (MECA) for Senior Medical Staff of CCDHB.
