Job description

Specialist in Orthopaedic Surgery (locum)

ABOUT THE COMPANY

Capital and Coast DHB (CCDHB) is located centrally in Wellington and has the equivalent of around 4,300 full time staff, making us a major employer in the Wellington region. We are also the leading provider of a number of specialist services, including neurosurgery, oncology, neonatal intensive care, specialised mental health services and support a population of about 900,000 people. Our DHB has an annual budget of more than $1 billion, which we use to deliver health services directly and contract external providers to provide care, such as general practices, rest homes and pharmacists.

Wellington is New Zealand’s capital. It is a “foodies” paradise, cultural art-loving harbour city, and a place you quickly begin to call home. Wellington has been named the best place to live in the world by Deutsche Bank’s 2017 study of 47 cities globally ranked. According to Deutsche Bank, it is also officially the city with the world's highest quality of life and has the least pollution of any city ranked.

ABOUT THE ROLE

Planning a change of scene or sabbatical? An adventure in Wellington could be just what you need. With no on-call requirement, this could be just the ticket to getting the most out of this great city and the rest of the country!

We are looking for Locum General Orthopaedic Surgeon to join our highly regarded team of 13 permanent Orthopaedic Specialists for a fixed term appointment. We are happy to consider options from 6 to 18 months in duration.

We provide a regional tertiary service for patients with complex major trauma, revision joint replacement, spinal disorders, scoliosis, paediatric and hand surgery. While the role is for a General Orthopaedic Surgeon there will be a focus on hip and knee arthroplasty.

You will pride yourself on providing a high standard of clinical practice and expertise to the patients under your care. The successful candidate will be a team player and clear communicator, willing to assist with the supervision and instruction of junior medical staff within the Orthopaedic service.

To be considered for this position you must hold FRACS in Orthopaedics, or equivalent, and hold, or be eligible to hold, Vocational (specialist) Registration with the Medical Council of New Zealand. CCDHB can assist with Medical Council registration and immigration requirements and can provide relocation assistance for the right candidate.
