Job description

A Specialist opportunity exists for a Respiratory Physician within the Department of Medicine. We have a diverse population with a high prevalence of COPD, Pulmonary Malignancy and Bronchiectasis. A successful candidate will contribute to an active sleep service, pulmonary function laboratory, new one stop clinic for lung cancers and an endoscopy service for bronchoscopies. The role will also include participation in the Acute Medical ward cover and on call physician cover for Acute Medical call on a 1:10 basis.

If you would like the challenge of managing a wide range of respiratory and acute medical conditions within a mid-sized New Zealand District Health Board, we would welcome
your application.

This position will be based at Whangarei hospital (in patient services) and undertake outpatient services across all district hospital sites.

Whangarei Hospital is the largest hospital in Northland, providing secondary care services for the region supported by three district hospitals.

The Department of Medicine has recently expanded its SMO workforce and will be expanding services from its current 5 team structure. The service consists of 13 Medical Registrars and five House Officers. The department has a coronary care unit with 5 beds, two medical wards with 56 beds and a spacious outpatient facility.

Northland DHB offers the opportunity to expand your clinical skills in response to the challenging needs of the local population. A balanced life style is supported with exciting scenic coastal areas which offer a mixture of recreational activities. House prices are more realistic, road congestion is minimal and you will always find a car parking space to start your day.

Northland covers an area of 12,600 square kilometres, has a population of 170,000 and is located approximately two hours’ drive from Auckland.

For more information on the position, please contact Dr Lucille Wilkinson, Clinical Director, Department of Medicine, Northland District Health Board, E-mail: Lucille.Wilkinson@northalnddhb.org.nz
