Job description

An opportunity has arisen for a Specialist Anaesthetist to take up a full-time joint Academic and Clinical position within the University of Otago and Dunedin Hospital.

Academic Component

For your academic duties you will be based in the Department of Surgical Sciences, Dunedin School of Medicine, and will be appointed to the position of Senior Lecturer. You will have prior experience in teaching and research, and would be responsible for teaching at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Alongside teaching you will have unlimited possibilities for laboratory and clinical based research.

Clinical Component

On the clinical side, the Dunedin Hospital has almost 400 beds and provides care for a population of approximately 180,000 spread over the lower South Island of New Zealand. Allocation of time for clinical duties and patient care is 50% of the working week. You will participate in a 1:7 on-call roster and provide a full range of Anaesthesia services alongside an enthusiastic group of colleagues.

Planning is currently underway to re-develop some of our facilities including the Intensive Care Department and also long term to rebuild our Clinical Services Block, so there will be opportunities to contribute to these developments.

You will need to have the Australian New Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FANZCA) or equivalent qualification, and will also have completed a fellowship in an area of anaesthesia, and must hold, or be eligible for, vocational registration with the New Zealand Medical Council.

Further Details

Outside of work, you’ll find life in Dunedin to be very easy with its affordable living, great schools, laid back lifestyle and world-famous wildlife on the Otago Peninsula. This sustains some great activities such as theatre, live-music and a great selection of restaurants and cafes. Central Otago, with all of its great holiday spots and outdoor recreation opportunities is also easily accessible from Dunedin.
