Job description

Medical Officer – Psychiatrist
Community Alcohol and Drug Medical Staff
Full time, Permanent

Are you a Medical Officer with previous experience in AoD, we are currently recruiting to a full time permanent vacancy. The OST programme has a significant medical model component including the need to have approximately 120 controlled drug scripts signed each week.

As an outstanding team player and capable leader, you will be able to support and influence the multi-disciplinary team you will be a part of. You will be enthusiastic about working with people with alcohol and drug problems and motivated about supporting and implementing initiatives such as Raise Hope and Rising to the Challenge, the local and national strategic documents for mental health.

You will be enthusiastic about teaching and passing your knowledge to junior members of staff as Southern DHB is affiliated with the Otago Medical School and Dunedin Hospital provides training to Registrars from the Royal Australia and New Zealand College of Psychiatrists.

Dunedin is a great little city with a big town feel and well-known for its Southern Hospitality, with some of New Zealand’s most famous scenery and holiday spots on your doorstep (Queenstown, Wanaka, Milford Sound, Stewart Island, to name but a few). The Southern region offers affordable living, great schools, and a relaxed way of life with no traffic jams in sight.

Candidates who are not currently registered with the New Zealand Medical Council should be aware that from 1 November 2017 it will be the requirement of the NZ Medical Council that your qualifications are approved through EPIC. If you have a commitment to working in New Zealand it is highly recommended that you start this process as soon as possible so as to allow your subsequent registration to be undertaken in a timely fashion.
