About the Company:

Part of the Healthscope group, Labtests has been providing pathology services to the Auckland community since 2009. We recognise the importance of highly qualified staff, inspired leadership together with advanced information technology and automation to achieve service excellence.

Labtests is the largest community laboratory in New Zealand, with close links to the four local DHB hospitals and Northland DHB. Labtests is seeking an experienced Clinical Microbiologist to work part-time (0.5 FTE or 0.8 FTE) in our Laboratory based in Mt Wellington, Auckland. In addition to the day-to-day work in the clinical microbiology laboratory, there is opportunity to engage in research and teaching with other healthcare professionals/bodies such as general practitioners, the universities, et cetera.

The Clinical Microbiologist will be part of a team of two microbiologists to provide diagnostic and consultative clinical microbiology services. There is also a wider team of Healthscope NZ microbiologists, which provides excellent peer support. The activities range from bench-level advice on the choice of tests including test frequency, required type of sample and the interpretation of laboratory data to communication of critical microbiology results and timely advice on antimicrobial treatment and ongoing clinical management.

In this role your scope of Microbiology practice will include:
-Bacteriology
-Parasitology
-Mycology
-Mycobacteriology
-Infectious serology
-Infection control
-Occupational health and safety as pertains to infectious diseases

You will need to hold the Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists of Australasia (FRCPA) or a similar recognised postgraduate qualification and be eligible for registration as a Specialist Pathologist by the Medical Council of New Zealand.

Qualifications required
