Job description

Consultant Paediatrician

Capital and Coast DHB (CCDHB) is located centrally in Wellington and has the equivalent of around 4,300 full time staff, making us a major employer in the Wellington region. We are also the leading provider of a number of specialist services, including neurosurgery, oncology, neonatal intensive care, and specialised mental health services, for the upper South and lower North Islands, a population of about 900,000 people. Our DHB has an annual budget of more than $1 billion, which we use to deliver health services directly and contract external providers to provide care, such as general practices, rest homes and pharmacists.

CCDHB operates two hospitals – Wellington Regional Hospital in Newtown and Kenepuru Hospital in Porirua – as well as the Kapiti Health Centre in Paraparaumu.Wellington is New Zealand’s capital. It is a “foodies” paradise, cultural art-loving harbour city, and a place you quickly begin to call home. Wellington has been named the best place to live in the world by Deutsche Bank’s 2017 study of 47 cities globally ranked. According to Deutsche Bank, it is also officially the city with the world's highest quality of life and has the least pollution of any city ranked.

An exciting opportunity exists for an experienced paediatrician to join our team in Wellington on a full-time basis. Wellington Hospital Children’s Health is a dynamic service and we are looking a fully trained and qualified paediatrician to join our collegial team.

This role will have shared responsibility for managing a busy shared-care oncology service (with one other paediatrician) in consultation with the primary paediatric oncology centres in Christchurch and Auckland. Experience in oncology is desirable, but not essential. Experience in, or desire to develop, other sub-speciality areas of interest which would complement existing service provision would be welcomed. The successful candidate will participate in the general paediatric on-call roster (1 in 9) excluding neonatology.

You will be a team player, clear communicator and someone who is willing and able assist with the supervision and instruction of junior medical staff within the service. An opportunity for a formal clinical leadership position may be available should the successful applicant be interested.

You will have FRACP or equivalent specialist qualification in Paediatrics. Applications would be welcome from those holding MRCP, FRCP, MRCPI or FRCPI accompanied by CCST or CCT or Am Bd Cert, Paediatrics, but not exclusively so.

Vocational Registration in Paediatrics with the Medical Council of New Zealand (MCNZ), or for overseas candidate; qualifications, training and experience recognised by MCNZ as suitable for applying for vocational (specialist) registration as a Paediatrician in New Zealand.

Generous leave entitlements and CME allowance are available.

CCDHB can also assist with Medical Council registration and immigration requirements and can provide relocation assistance for the right candidate.

Join us for life and work in Wellington and all it has to offer! Wellington is a vibrant little city, with access to arts, sports, food, and cultural events in abundance! There are good local schools and it’s a great place to raise a family.

Be genuinely interested in people, and able to relate to a wide range of people in a helpful, intellectual and compassionate manner.
