Job description

Mid North Mental Health & Addiction Services

We have an exciting new opening for a Consultant Psychiatrist looking for a rural, farm, or beach lifestyle opportunity, living and working in the Mid North, Bay of Islands and Hokianga area. This position would involve both conducting community clinics, and also clinical input into our Sub-Acute Unit.

This position is part of Northland’s wider Mental Health Services, which cover the whole of the North from around Wellsford to North Cape. Inpatient services are available from the larger service in Whangarei, and peer support from colleagues in Whangarei, Kaikohe, Kerikeri and Kaitaia. We offer you the chance to provide leadership to a multidisciplinary team, with support for your professional development and plenty of opportunities to make a difference.

We are situated at the door of the Bay of Islands, which offers an exciting lifestyle for even the seasoned tourist. Water based activities available include water skiing, diving, sailing, sea kayaking, fishing, boating and swimming. The climate is sub-tropical. The Bay of Islands is only 45 minutes away from Whangarei, the nearest city and only 2 hours 45 minutes from Auckland. There is a good range of educational opportunities for families with both private and public schooling nearby.

An appreciation of Maori culture and rural/community psychiatric experience would be an advantage.
