Job description

The Whanganui District Health Board's Mental Health Service is seeking applications for a General Adult Consultant Psychiatrist to be based at Whanganui Hospital in the city of Whanganui. We are looking for a suitably qualified enthusiastic vocationally registered Psychiatrist to take up a permanent position with 1:5 on-call duties. FTE is negotiable with a full time position available.

Vocational registration with the Medical Council of NZ is essential and previous New Zealand based clinical practice is preferred. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and demonstrate a strong commitment to a multi-disciplinary team working environment, interfacing with colleagues in other medical specialties.

This role will allow you to thrive professionally in providing your clinical expertise within a service which has a strong commitment to collaboration between clients, families, staff, and other services. An interest in subspecialties such as Consultation Liaison, Addictions or Elder Health can be flexibly accommodated. WDHB is committed to codesign and currently has several projects on the go

Your move to Whanganui will allow you to experience a vast range of sights and entertainment in our region. It offers easily accessible mountains for skiing, mountain biking or tramping, lakes for fishing and boating, as well as beaches for surfing and quiet walks. Whanganui also boasts an exciting arts community and facilities, a mix of local and travelling music talent, educational and sporting opportunities for all ages, historical buildings and culture. Whanganui is located two-and-half hours drive from our capital city, Wellington.
