Job description

We are looking for a gastroenterologist to join our team. Why should you apply? We are a friendly department that offers work-life balance in a great place to live. This is a full time position, however we are also interested in applicants who would like to work with us on a part time basis.

The Gastroenterology Department at Palmerston North Hospital, New Zealand, serves the university town of Palmerston North and the Manawatu district. We provide quality outpatient gastroscopy and colonoscopy, ERCP, liver elastography, outpatient clinical care, inpatient gastroenterology care and bowel cancer screening services to the 160,000 people in our district. We are affiliated to the University of Otago, have a training gastroenterology registrar in our department, and have a research relationship with Massey University. This environment provides excellent opportunity for both teaching and research.

This is an exciting time to join MidCentral District Health Board (MDHB) as it is embarking upon a transformational change programme to firmly establish itself as a high performing health system that meets the current and future demands of its communities, that provides improved patient experiences for service users and that achieves improved patient and community health and wellbeing.

Palmerston North is a great place to live, and to raise a family. We have a strong musical and cultural community, excellent schooling, and terrific sporting opportunities. We are lucky to have New Zealand's Ruahine and Tararua forest parks, Himitangi and Foxton beaches and alpine Mount Ruapehu all within 2 hours of our city.

Applicants must be eligible for vocational registration in Internal Medicine with the Medical Council of New Zealand with specialist training / qualification in Gastroenterology, as well as having demonstrated clinical, management, and teaching skills and the ability to work effectively within the multi-disciplinary team.
